What yarn is everyone using?

Hi fellow colchiquers! I'm a bit behind on this project - I haven't even bought yarn yet! I was considering Karabella's Aurora 4, which I found on Knit Pixie for $8/ball. The gauge is 5.5 stitches/inch on size 4s (Is that too tight?) Since this pattern doesn't judge gauge in stockinette, what gauge yarns are you guys using? I saw some Knit Picks Merino Style and Cascade 220...any other suggestions? This is always the hardest part for me :)

Hi Julsey,
This pattern calls for a worsted weight, which creates a really dense knit fabric. The Cascade 220 would probably be close to what the designer intended. The Aurora 4 is so fine that the resulting fabric would be really light, maybe too light. The Aurora 8 is probably more appropriate and is widely available and has a much wider color range than the 4. I personally love the Aurora yarn, and it would make a lovely sweater that would be soft to the skin.
I don't know the weight of Knit Picks yarn. (just looked it up, it is a dk weight)
I chose a dk weight yarn (Inca Alpaca) and it is knitting up beautifully. I've got the right guage, but because the yarn is not as big as a worsted, the fabric is not as dense as the designer intended, but it will be perfect for me. Hope this helps some.

On Breiweb's listing for Pure Laine 3.5...

It says that yarn gives 21st/4". That's smaller than worsted weight, it's like DK weight, I think. Something like Rowan Harris Tweed DK would be perfect:

From Knit Pixie, try SW Trading Co. Optimum DK:

and Peace Fleece DK:

good luck!
