Collar Modification - What do you think?
Hi all,
One last comment for the day... I'm thinking of modifying the collar so that it buttons up all the way rather than leaving the collar button-free and only able to be worn down. That way Colchique could be worn as a turtleneck. Anybody else thinking of doing it this way? What would the drawbacks be? (other than the visual effect of having buttonholes on the edge of the flap when worn down) :-) j

I think it's a great idea- actually, since I haven't gotten that far with my sweater, I haven't noticed that the collar isn't buttoned all the way up. But I definately want the possibility to make mine a turtleneck.
I love the idea. The flap down seems to take away from the front detailing. And after all this work, you want to show off the detailing.
:)
I don't even have my yarn, yet... but when I look at the photos, it appears that there is too much flap to have it buttoned all the way up - as in a "mock turtleneck". (?) Or would you double it over? I'm not quite imagining it.
Pinki, you're right - the flap covers 1/2 the aran cable! I think it would work out kind of like a large funnel neck type thing - larger than a mock turtle but not to be folded over.
I think I'm going to do it - it can't hurt, eh?
I have a sweater from banana republic that has the same type of closure, and the button holes go all the way up the collar. to be honest, I've never worn it buttoned up as a turtleneck, but the button holes themselves are hardly noticeable on the front.
I'd say to go for it...I might do the same myself.
I think buttonholes all the way up are logical. sounds great to me.
Hmm. Now that I look at it, it seems the collar is not constructed for buttons all the way up unless you add a button allowance to the collar somehow (as you do on the left sleeve). If you don't have that button allowance, the collar just doesn't overlap to allow for buttoning, I think. I am too lazy for that at the moment... but it could definitely be done.
